As we are halfwayish through 2012, I have spent the last few weeks reassessing the goals I set for myself for the year. They’ve been sitting in a note in my phone since July 1st and I wanted a few weeks to make sure I was really committed to making these happen. Turns out I am, with only a few tweaks now that I have a better idea of what August-December holds for me work-wise.
Begin going to a church regularly and, if it’s right, join a small group that meets regularly. We have been church hopping and visiting since we got married and it has been so much fun. It’s been nice to be able to sit back and talk about what is important to each of us in a church and find one that fits us both. We’ve decided that before we pick a home we want to visit at least 6 times, We’ve most recently been visiting The Summit Church (we’ve been to the Cary campus which is closest to us, and the Brier Creek campus) and have really enjoyed it.
Read at least 5 more books: I’ve picked a few titles that I’d like to read by the end of the year.
- Gospel, by JD Greear
- (finish) The Perks of Being a Wallflower
- Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud
- Stuff Christians Like by Jon Acuff
- Love Does by Bob Goff
- Cesar’s Way by Cesar Millan
Finish our downstairs! Just the cosmetic obvious stuff, walls, floors, molding, and maaaybe get a new kitchen table. We’d like to have a Christmas party/belated housewarming in December, so we will see!
Run a 5k! I’m slowly working my way up to 3.1 miles and the goal is to be able to run a 5k by the Color Run in November.
Manage work/life balance better. I’m looking forward to reading ‘Boundaries’ and I think it will really help me work on this. The upcoming school year is going to be very busy and I have a lot of outside projects going on (coaching cheerleading, fundraising + recruiting for Costa Rica, Common Core rep for World Languages, etc.) and it’s going to take a lot of work to maintain my efficiency in the classroom (and effectiveness) and wear all these other hats well. And be a wife, sister, friend, daughter, doggy mama, etc.
Make more time to write. I love writing. It is so therapeutic for me to sit down and put life into words. I’m aiming for at least a weekly blog post about something/nothing.
Celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary! On September 10th we’ll be officially married a year. We are still figuring out what we want to do to celebrate…whatever it is will definitely include banana pudding.
Stay diligent on taking care of myself and our home. “The Plan” will live on to help me keep my weeks for work and weekends for fun. I’ll keep on running (to get ready for that 5k) and I’m working on taking a few weeks break from grains + sugar to see if I can’t get some other health issues under control, a separate blog post on that coming later.
Keep up with our budgeting and debt snowball and be prepared for extra expenses with the holidays.
Do what I love, love what I do. Every single day.
