Art

My sweet artsy friend, Emily made a proposition to me the other night in quite possibly the most effective way possible…”Hey Kellie, do you want money?”. My response: um, always. The Colton Review is an art and literary journal on campus that features work of people on campus. There is a monetary prize if your work is chosen so after talking to Emily I  went a’searching for some of my favorite photos from the past two years. Can we talk about how difficult it was to choose just four?

I have almost a daily routine of reading random photographer blogs, and most recently in more than one place I’ve just gotten random encouragement of there is no right way to do photography. It’s art. I’ve never really considered myself to be an artist… but I guess that is the beauty of art. It’s not really defined. It’s just what you think is pretty. I like that.

I would also like to introduce my watermark. I guess I’ll start using it now? I haven’t really had trouble with people stealing my pictures so not sure how totally necessary it is, but recently a client requested some photos with one, so I had to be creative. I would also like to thank Marshall for giving me calm, cool and collected step-by-step instructions on how to make one. When I get frustrated with computer stuff it is not a pretty sight, and  I think he found that calm tones keep me calm.

Enjoy!

I’m sure I will post excitedly if one of them is chosen, but in the meantime, just enjoy the prettiness. I sure do.

  1. Kellie, I read your blog extra regularly, like every time you show up in my feed, which I am sure you have found out if you track your readers. I love your pictures, the way you tell your stories, your humor and you are my little connection with Meredith, since we moved to Louisiana. And I have to comment, because this tiny curly head is my very own niece… It's an amazing picture of her you got there! I hope you do get a win, but even if you don't, these are still outstanding pictures… Tata for now. Carine (Sarah's sister-in-law, who used to work the nightshift at the library – just in case you have no idea who I am)

  2. Don't be fooled into thinking that I love your pictures simply because I am the mother of one of your subjects…..
Some days (how WRONG IS THIS?) I hope you will ditch the old teaching degree and go straight into photography and in an act of mercy and pity, hire me to do something, anything, in your studio.
You take amazing pictures, girl, keep 'em coming!

  3. Carine! I am so glad you commented 🙂 of course i know who you are, but sadly I had no idea you moved to Louisiana! I think that goes to show how often I go to the library… 🙂

Sarah — if I get lucky enough to not have to teach forever, you will be the first one I call for studio fun. Trust. Me. Also, I'm gonna make some prints soon so I'll get you one of that shot of A… so precious.
