When I went to Charlotte earlier this month, my sweet friend-in-law Jamie and her roommate Katie introduced me to the concept of Amish Friendship Bread. I had never heard of it (or tasted it) but Katie made some loaves with dark chocolate chips in them and I was SOLD.
Over Easter weekend, Jamie gave me my very own bag of “starter” and today was day 6! I added 1 cup of flour, sugar and milk each and day 10 will be when the baking magic happens. The success of the Apple Cake has boosted my baking confidence in the dorm ovens so I’ll be spending my duty on Monday (how perfect) in the 1st Vann kitchen (the oven isn’t as sketchy as Stringfield’s).
According the recipe (seriously, check it out!) I’ll have three-to-four starters to give away if anyone is interested. Two are already spoken for by my lovely friends and future co-workers Sarah Beth May and Margaret Lally but depending on how successful this is I might be giving all four away. I’ll have a ton of extra flour, eggs, sugar, etc. so if you want some just let me know. The recipe looks pretty generic so instead of adding nuts you can add chocolate chips, banana, etc.. whatever your pleasure. Hello, banana bread. Or cranberry bread. I’m so hungry now.
